Sickle Cell Tennis Classic
At a Wine and Cheese Reception recently held at the Medical Director's Residence on the Hospital Grounds of A.I. duPont Hospital for Children, a $13,000 check from money raised at last year's Sickle Cell Tennis Classic was presented to Wilmington's A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.
The tournament host, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Omega Chapter and their 501©3 charitable Arm, Pearls of Hope Foundation, Inc., presented this donation to be used to help fund research for Sickle Cell Anemia a painful blood disorder affecting ethnic populations worldwide.
Funds were raised by members of the hosting organizations soliciting patrons, ads, and community donations for the 31st Annual Sickle Cell Tennis Classic held last August 2008. Over the years the Tennis Classic has raised more than $216,000 for Sickle Cell research.
The event served as the kick-off to the 2009 Sickle Cell Tennis Classic season (the 32nd year). |
