The Tournament is a great way to gain visibility as a supporter of the Delaware community’s effort to raise funds for Sickle Cell research and education. The tournament is a fun time for local residents as well as visitors from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey. The matches are highly competitive and from all the positive comments each year, “a great time” is had by all! The winners proudly display their trophies. Last year, nearly 300 players competed in over 200 matches.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
On January 16, 1908, a group of nine young women at Howard University initiated the movement of founding a Greek Letter sorority among Negro women in America. From this small nucleus, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc has expanded to more than 170,000 college women affiliated with undergraduate and alumnae chapters located in leading colleges, universities and cities throughout the United States and abroad. As the Founding members crafted the purpose of the organization, they included, “…to be of service to all mankind.”
Zeta Omega Chapter became the sixth alumnae chapter of the Sorority when it was chartered on April 28, 1922 in Wilmington, DE. The members of Zeta Omega have proudly upheld the purpose and traditions of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in providing service to all mankind. The impact of Zeta Omega’s contributions and positive impact in Wilmington and New Castle County, DE has been realized through activities such as:
The Pearls of Hope Foundation, Inc., a 501(C)(3) organization, was established as the charitable arm of Zeta Omega. The mission of the Foundation is to promote the advancement in education among diverse communities, to provide scholarships and to promote cultural, health and educational activities that support and impact the family.
The members of Zeta Omega Chapter, of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Pearls of Hope Foundation, Inc. are pleased to continue the excellent tradition of the Sickle Cell Tennis Classic. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of the participants, sponsors and supporters who have played an integral part in the success of the tournament through the years.
